Tiger Trades: Where are they now?

With the season wrapping up I thought it would be interesting to look back at some of the moves that the team made earlier this season and how they fared. With a minor league system filled with talent, Detroit did not make a large number of moves this year even though they were racked with […]

Neifi Perez supsended 80-games for 3rd drug violation

ESPN is reporting that Neifi Perez has been handed an 80-day suspension for a 3rd violation of the MLB drug policy. This will save the Detroit club some money:

His initial suspension cost him $396,175, and the second will cost him $792,350 — a total of $1,188,525 of his $2.5 million salary. He will miss the […]

Detroit All-Stars and Curtis Granderson

With at least 5 players heading off to the 2007 All-Star Game in San Francisco next week I have very little to complain about. Gone are the days where Detroit sends the lone representative that was not selected by either the fans at-large or by the players. Much of this turn in personal fortunes can […]

Tigers pass on Troy Percival; goes to St. Louis

With the Detroit bullpen issues of late there has been much talk around town about resigning RHP Troy Percival to help with late inning relief. Percival ended his career last year with the Tigers, well.. officially with the Angels, after season ending surgery. The Tigers payed him around $12M for the ‘05 and ‘06 seasons […]

Tigers trade talks heating up

I noticed the folks at MLB Trade Rumors picked up on the Detroit Free Press speculations on the Tigers trade possibilities. They suggest Mike Maroth as a possible piece of the puzzle of any significant trade due to his upcoming free agency and general serviceability.
I wouldn’t like to see him leave this year though it […]

Tigers faring well in All-Star balloting

MLB.com has released the current totals on All-Star balloting for the American League today and the Tigers are faring very well. For infield there is a Tiger in the Top 5 for each position and 2 in the Top 15 for the outfield.
Ivan Rodriguez is leading AL catchers with 370,322 and a margin of 41,348 […]

Humberto Sanchez underwent Tommy John surgery

Ex-Detroit Tiger prospect Humberto Sanchez apparently underwent Tommy John surgery. Sanchez was traded to the Yankees along with other top pitching prospects Kevin Whelan and Anthony Claggett for Gary Sheffield in early November 2006.

The deal is looking a bit better, now if only Sheffield can come around. Apparently the Yankee’s weren’t so forthcoming with information […]

Tigers marketing lacks originality, says Detroit-Mercy Report

An article over at the Detroit News states that Detroit marketing is lacking in originality. What is lost in the headline is that they are tops when it comes to popularity.

Though the Tigers’ staple promotions — kids running the bases and weekend fireworks — may not be original, they are among the most popular in […]

MLB Extra Innings available on iN Demand

A quick update on the Extra Innings situation. It appears that this has come to an amicable end with cable providers having the ability to offer the package for another seven years. I’ve spoken my thoughts on this situation before and it was gearing up to be a big fight.

Comcast here in Detroit is now […]
