Detroit Tiger Ticket Mania

The Detroit Tigers are eying ticket sales today to see if they could possibly sell out home games before the season even starts. Dave Dombrowski warned us all in mid-January that tickets were going to be tough to come by:

“I would suggest to people that when our individual season tickets go on sale in March, […]

Curtis Granderson to be a Tiger for a long time

I’m really late on this one. The first time I go on a business trip for weeks and I miss a major signing. Oh well. As this story has been covered throughout the Tiger blogosphere already, I won’t dwell on this news to much.
While not a big surprise it is great news to see that […]

It’s settled. Inge to the backstop, for now

Brandon Inge has broken his silence and seems to still be coming to terms with the situation he is now in. For now, Brandon will report to the Tigers Spring Training with the catchers, though Dombrowski is still seeking a trade. According to Brandon, this is the worst situation he could be in:

“I look at […]

Tigers look to lock up everyone this offseason

In news that isn’t much of a shocker when you take into account how Dave Dombrowski does business, the Free Press is reporting that the Tigers and Curtis Granderson are in the process of negotiating a long term contract.

The Tigers would likely want the contract to stretch a minimum of one season beyond the point […]

Tigers sneak in Robertson extension

As I sit here and watch the news wire on news of a Miguel Cabrera extension I notice that the Tigers went ahead an extended Nate Robertson today. The deal is a 3-year, $21M dollar extension that puts him in the rotation through 2010.
There were some stipulations to the salary though:

Robertson will earn $4.25 million […]

How will Brandon Inge fare as a catcher?

After yesterday’s Tigersfest it is looking more and more like Brandon Inge will be with the ballclub for the 2008 season. This isn’t surprising at this point since his high salary and low OPS last year has made a trade difficult. There has also been absolute silence on the trade front for the past few […]

Tiger Arbitration Update

Tonight is the deadline for the Tigers to tender contracts to arbitration eligable players. This morning they had seven players eligable for arbitration: Tim Byrdak, Miguel Cabrera, Chad Durbin, Nate Robertson, Bobby Seay, Marcus Thames and Dontrelle Willis.
Hasn’t been much movement up to this point on the key players but two moves were made:
Tigers […]

How the NHL salary cap contributed to the Tigers success

I received my copy of the Hardball Times Baseball Annual 2008 yesterday. This is the first year I’ve purchased it and did so mainly to read the article by fellow blogger Bill Ferris on Tiger GM Dave Dombrowski. Needless to say it was the same great commentary that you’ve come to expect on the Detroit […]

Chris Shelton to Texas for Guzman

Earlier today it was announced that Detroit had traded for Freddy Guzman with the Player to be Named Later (PTBNL). Well, now is later and the player is Chris Shelton. Certainly there is no shock with this move but Shelton retains many fans in this town. The writing was on the wall as he was […]
