Tigers sneak in Robertson extension

As I sit here and watch the news wire on news of a Miguel Cabrera extension I notice that the Tigers went ahead an extended Nate Robertson today. The deal is a 3-year, $21M dollar extension that puts him in the rotation through 2010.
There were some stipulations to the salary though:

Robertson will earn $4.25 million […]

Willis extension the right move for Detroit

The Tigers signed Dontrelle Willis to a 3-year extension today before he ever even set foot on the mound for Detroit. In fact, as he was being interviewed he was getting the tour of Comerica Park:

Willis took a tour of the ballpark, including the home clubhouse. After he walked down the tunnel to the dugout, […]

Detroit ZiPS projections released

The ZiPS projections for the Detroit Tigers 2008 season were released this morning. They are a bit more pessimistic than I had expected and there are worries about depth and the impact injuries would have:

Pretty clearly, the Tigers are one of the AL’s Big 5, but I think they’re probably still 5th, for the simple […]

Who did the Tigers give up?

With what is being regarded as a blockbuster deal to gain LHP Dontrelle Willis and 3B Miguel Cabrera, the Tigers pretty much cashed in their farm system. With the exception of Rick Porcello, all the top Tiger prospects are no longer with the team. The top four Tiger prospects, as laid out by Kevin Goldstein […]

Cruceta is hard to get too excited about

Tigers signed RHP reliever Francisco Cruceta today with GM Dave Dombrowski stating:

“Cruceta has pitched very well this winter in the Dominican Republic,” Dombrowski said. “He is a quality prospect and we expect him to compete for a spot in our bullpen in 2008.”

He did do well with the Gigantes del Cibao in the Liga de […]

Welcome Back Kenny!

It was only a matter of time, but the Tigers and Kenny Rogers got the deal done today. The deal is believe to be around a $8M one-year deal with incentives based on appearances and performance. Kenny suggests that he gave a discount to pitch in Detroit:

“I have no doubt at all that I didn’t […]

Casey Crosby likely due for elbow surgery

Matt Wallace at Take 75 North has pointed out an article in today’s Chicago Sun-Times about the Tiger prospect Casey Crosby and his need for Tommy John surgery. Crosby was selected by the Tigers in the 5th round (181 overall) in the 2007 MLB draft.
The tone of the article suggests that Crosby possibly […]

Bobby Seay: Coming out of left field

Bobby Seay has had a good year for any pitcher but an even better one for a pitcher that didn’t make the team coming out of spring training. Having been beat out for a spot on the club by Chad Durbin, Seay eventually was slotted in the bullpen when Durbin was put in the starting […]

Tiger Trades: Where are they now?

With the season wrapping up I thought it would be interesting to look back at some of the moves that the team made earlier this season and how they fared. With a minor league system filled with talent, Detroit did not make a large number of moves this year even though they were racked with […]
