When the Twins traded a PTBNL for Craig Monroe the deal was contingent on the Twins signing him. They did just that by signing him to a single-year for around $3.82M which, as Mr. Christensen points out, is a 20% pay cut.
Pretty surprising move as they don’t appear to have a major need in the outfield and $3.8M is a bit much for a backup outfielder. A bit much for Craig Monroe as well.
…and the next day the Royals non-tender Emil Brown, who was at least comparable, and I believe better than Monroe last season.
Yep, Monroe is 30 as well (Brown is 33) so there isn’t much hope for improvement from here on..
