Cruceta is hard to get too excited about

Tigers signed RHP reliever Francisco Cruceta today with GM Dave Dombrowski stating:

“Cruceta has pitched very well this winter in the Dominican Republic,” Dombrowski said. “He is a quality prospect and we expect him to compete for a spot in our bullpen in 2008.”

He did do well with the Gigantes del Cibao in the Liga de [...]

Welcome Back Kenny!

It was only a matter of time, but the Tigers and Kenny Rogers got the deal done today. The deal is believe to be around a $8M one-year deal with incentives based on appearances and performance. Kenny suggests that he gave a discount to pitch in Detroit:

“I have no doubt at all that I didn’t [...]

Michael Hollimon gets shot at shotstop for Mud Hens

With Mud Hens infielder, Kevin Hooper, signing a minor league contract with the Houston Astros, an opportunity has risen for Michael Hollimon to continue his quick rise through the Tiger farm system. Hooper, who was a minor league free agent, saw an opportunity to make a big league roster and took it:

Hooper’s agent, Steve Canter, [...]

Casey Crosby likely due for elbow surgery

Matt Wallace at Take 75 North has pointed out an article in today’s Chicago Sun-Times about the Tiger prospect Casey Crosby and his need for Tommy John surgery. Crosby was selected by the Tigers in the 5th round (181 overall) in the 2007 MLB draft.
The tone of the article suggests that Crosby possibly [...]

Why does Detroit continue to protect Giarratano?

The Tigers announced yesterday that they will not be making any further roster moves in anticipation for the Rule 5 draft during the Winter Meetings. What this ultimately means is that any player who isn’t currently on the Detroit 40-Man roster and eligible under the Rule 5 eligibility rules is available to be selected by [...]

Bobby Seay: Coming out of left field

Bobby Seay has had a good year for any pitcher but an even better one for a pitcher that didn’t make the team coming out of spring training. Having been beat out for a spot on the club by Chad Durbin, Seay eventually was slotted in the bullpen when Durbin was put in the starting [...]

Sneak Peak at the Tigers 2008 Lineup

One reason I like Dave Dombrowski is how quickly he gets to work in the off-season to fill any holes in the ball club. ESPN’s Buster Onley takes note of this as well, though giving credit to Jim Leyland’s decisiveness, in a recent blog entry:

If you’re around Jim Leyland for 10 seconds, you quickly ascertain [...]

Tiger Stadium Seats

Well, the Tiger Stadium seats that I ordered have arrived exactly as stated.

The seats are sold As-Is, and are directly shipped from Tiger Stadium. Your seats will most likely be dirty/dusty and will need a good cleaning.

Needless to say, I am quite pleased :)

Tigers trail AL Central in youth talent

Sports Illustrated published Team-by-Team Talent Rankings by Bill James which gives each MLB team a score based on the amount of youth talent on the team. Unfortunately, the Detroit Tigers ranked near the bottom of all MLB teams and solidly last for AL Central.

Journalists are not Bloggers, thankfully

Well, it took a scathing piece about bloggers to take me out of my much needed break from blogging. I really enjoyed following and writing my thoughts about the Detroit Tigers over the last season on this blog and my respect for the entire baseball blogosphere and specifically other Detroit Tiger bloggers has grown immensely.
