I’m pretty late on this one and didn’t even hear the news myself until I was on my way home for the day, but the top Tiger prospect and one of the top prospects in all of baseball was promoted to the big leagues.
Cameron Maybin has spent the last week with the Double-A Erie Seawolves after being called up from the High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers where he had spent the majority of the season. Maybin did well in the Florida State League batting .304/.393/.486 this year which earned him the promotion to Erie. The move to the big leagues is quite surprising, particularly before the roster was expanded in September.
To make room Craig Monroe was Designated for Assignment and will likely be moved on to another team. I was a Craig fan last year primarily because of the big innings that he seemed to come up with but glad to see Dave Dombrowski make this move. It was needed, at least some action was needed, and hopefully this will pan out to be the igniter that the team is searching for.
In other roster moves, Omar Infante was optioned to Toledo and Ramon Santiago was called up. Hopefully Ramon can patch up the shotty defense that the team is seeing out of Carlos Guillen.
