Zumaya pitches first rehab outing in Norfolk

Joel Zumaya made his first appearance on the mound today since May 1st. This was a previously scheduled outing with the Toledo Mudhens against the Norfolk Tides.

He was limited to 18 pitches (11 of which were strikes) and appeared to have his velocity which ranged from 92-95 mph on the fastball. He threw mostly fastballs and mixed in a curveball or two allowing a double and striking out one after facing three batters. A pretty good first outing.

He has two more scheduled appearances with Toledo and could be back with the team on August 21st.

His return, while important, is just as important as the return of Andrew Miller and Kenny Rogers. After watching tonights game, the Tigers are in major need of the return of their regular starters.
