The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Gary Sheffield will be getting a three-game suspension for tossing his bat during the 5th inning of last nights game. This could hurt a bit for the Tigers with many folks already hurt but luckily the appeals process is fairly slow so he won’t be serving it immediately.
This is rather ridiculous though as I’ve seen far worse behavior out of players go unpunished. I think from watching the game last night that he shouldn’t have been ejected let alone suspended. I half expected the suspension to be for his tirade after being ejected as the story that he was throwing the bat handle at the umpire doesn’t hold any water.
