Game 16 Preview: Tigers vs White Sox

Detroit Tigers (9-6) vs Chicago White Sox (7-7)
Comerica Park @ 7:05pm EST
FSN-HD / AM 1270 / FM 97.1
Chad Durbin (0-1, 12.46) vs John Danks (0-2, 3.97)

Chad Durbin is getting his third start after having two he’d rather have back. Many, including myself, expect that if this outing goes as the others it could be his [...]

Humberto Sanchez underwent Tommy John surgery

Ex-Detroit Tiger prospect Humberto Sanchez apparently underwent Tommy John surgery. Sanchez was traded to the Yankees along with other top pitching prospects Kevin Whelan and Anthony Claggett for Gary Sheffield in early November 2006.

The deal is looking a bit better, now if only Sheffield can come around. Apparently the Yankee’s weren’t so forthcoming with information [...]

Tigers 2006 & 2007 Comparison, so far

So we’re 15 games into the season trying to follow up on a tremendous 2006. Last year was certainly a year we’ll never forget and this year the Tigers are off to a good start already as well. But how good?

Since we’ve gotten the day off, I’ve taken a look at how the season thus [...]

Chi-Sox Buehrle pitches no-hitter

White Sox starter Mark Buehrle pitched a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers this evening. I listened to the last inning once I saw that he had one going through eight. He allowed a single walk (to Sammy Sosa) and racked up eight strikeouts, very impressive performance.

Buehrle had a 4.32 ERA going into the night and [...]

No All Star Game likely for Curtis Granderson

I had noticed when I went over to vote for the 2007 All-Star’s that the name Curtis Granderson was not there. Danny Knobler the Tigers Insider spells out why:

Here’s the problem: With the All-Star Game in San Francisco this year, there’s no room for a designated hitter on the AL ballot. That meant the Tigers [...]

Royals rally in ninth to avoid sweep

Box Score
Summary
This game turned out to be the pitching matchup that everyone expected. Not on the level of last week’s Bonderman-Halladay contest but was pretty good nonetheless. Jeremy Bonderman is really starting to come into his own and made it through seven innings allowing only three hits while striking out six with only 86 pitches. [...]

Game 15 Preview: Tigers vs Royals

Detroit Tigers (9-5) vs Kansas City Royals (3-11)
Comerica Park @ 1:05pm EST
FSND / AM 1270 / FM 97.1
Jeremy Bonderman (0-0, 2.57 ERA) vs Gil Meche (1-1, 3.10 ERA)
After first making the Royals the first team to reach double digits in losses the Tigers have a shot at picking up their first sweep of the 2007 [...]

Tigers perform late inning heroics once again

Box Score
Summary
Tigers sat a few of their regulars to start the game; Sean Casey, Curtis Granderson and Brandon Inge all sat to start though Casey was brought in later after Marcus went yard and Grandy was brought in during the ninth for defense. The flu seemed to be still causing some issues around the team. [...]

Game 14 Preview: Tigers vs Royals

Detroit Tigers (8-5) vs Kansas City Royals (3-10)
Comerica Park @ 7:05pm EST
FSN+ / AM 1270
Mike Maroth (2-0, 4.91) vs Jorge De La Rosa (1-1, 3.55)
Detroit’s offense had a coming out party last night and I hope there is no hangover. Mike Maroth is coming into tonights match up undefeated and looking to remain that way. [...]

All Tigers reach base in high scoring win

Summary
Today’s game started off with a real bang with Pudge Rodriguez hitting his 6th career grand-slam and the Tigers third of the season. Pretty impressive for a team that has had a slow start offensively. I believe the Tigers only had two grand-slams last year for the entire season. It was a pretty slow game [...]

AL Central salary fun

An article today over at Baseball Prospectus on big league salaries had me thinking about how the landscape has changed in the AL Central. The article uses the Opening Day salary data from the last three years and takes a look at the teams that have had the largest salary decreases. The Nationals topped that [...]
