Game 20 Preview: Tigers vs Angels

Detroit Tigers (10-8) vs Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (9-9)
Angel Stadium @ 3:35pm EST
FSND / AM 1270 / FM 97.1

Jeremy Bonderman (0-0, 2.25 ERA) vs Kelvim Escobar (1-1. 3.18)

Seems like the Tigers just got here but this game will end their quick jaunt to the west coast. Ace Jeremy Bonderman is still clawing for his first win and he will hopefully get some of the run support that the Tigers provided for Maroth yesterday. Bonderman has a career 3.55 ERA against the Angels and has had success against a number of their toughest batters namely Vladimir Guerrero who has gone 1 for 11 against Jeremy.

Tigers batters will face a good pitcher in Escobar. As they made the Angels dig into the bullpen last night it will be key for the Tigers to get rid of Escobar early and force LA back into their bullpen and they’ll need to do this by continuing their good plate disipline drawing walks and pushing up the pitch count. Most of the Tigers have not had success against Escobar historically except Magglio Ordonez who is 8 for 22 (.364). All of the Tigers at the end of the lineup have yet to get a hit against Escobar in 23 AB’s (Casey, Monroe, Inge.) Marcus Thames is 1 for 3 with a home run though so we might see him in the game to start.
