Mike Maroth (2-0, 5.40 ERA) vs Jered Weaver (0-1, 4.50 ERA)

This is a weird western road trip for Detroit going from a day game, that went to 12 innings, and flying to LA for two games before going to Chicago for two games then back home for the weekend. I’m sure there is some reason for this but it will be tough on the guy’s. Tonights game will also be a late one.

Mike Maroth will make his fourth start. None of his previous starts I would consider stellar but the Tigers have won every game that he’s started in so far so he has done his job. A win tonight will put him in the lead for the most wins amongst Tiger starters. Some Angel starters have had success against Maroth historically:

• Gary Matthews - 4 for 9, 2 HR (.444/.500/1.222)
• Garret Anderson - 6 for 16, 1 HR (.375/.474/.563)

Tiger batters will face Jered Weaver who’s starting in his second game. Weaver missed his first few starts of the season as he was on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis. His first start against Oakland wasn’t bad until the fourth inning in which he gave up a 3-run home run to Crosby. Weaver had an impressive rookie season with the Angels pitching 123 innings ending with a 2.56 ERA. Most Tiger batters will be seeing him for the first time tonight.
