Tigers marketing lacks originality, says Detroit-Mercy Report

An article over at the Detroit News states that Detroit marketing is lacking in originality. What is lost in the headline is that they are tops when it comes to popularity.

Though the Tigers’ staple promotions — kids running the bases and weekend fireworks — may not be original, they are among the most popular in baseball, said Eric Smallwood, vice president of Front Row Marketing Services, a sports marketing firm.

“It looks to me like the Tigers are right in line with the better promotions in baseball,” he said. “Putting them at the cellar seems wacky.”

There is graded list headed up by the Pittsburgh Pirate and the Florida Marlins. Overall the list seems to be in opposite order of how good a team is. Keep in mind that the minor leagues are most known for original marketing to draw folks to the game, something Detroit has no problems doing this season.

I like my rally towel’s and some are going for money on ebay.
