In the last post about Curtis Granderson and his strikeout troubles I took a look at his splits between left handed pitchers and right handed pitchers. Curtis’s large gap for performance between the two was quite well known last year. In many games last season opposing teams would put in a left handed pitcher to face Granderson knowing their odds were much better with the lefty than with a righty and they were quite correct on that. However, there were a number of other Tiger batters with similar differences in performance between LHPs and RHPs.

Below is a look at On Base Percentage differences between LHP/RHP for each Tigers batter with > 100 ABs.

There is also a Batting Average difference which points out a few interesting details. Most interestingly is Chris Shelton’s splits that have a 5.10% OBP difference but only a .3% difference in Batting Average. We also see that Pudge’s OBP difference is almost as great as Granderson, though at the same time it isn’t bad for either RHPs or LHPs.
