I’m all for feel-good stories in the spring time but I thought Tom Gage at the Detroit News was stretching a bit for this one: Eischen just the right kind of dog for the Tigers’ pen. Eischen is vying for a spot on the roster this off season but he is truely a long-shot here. You can view his stats over The Baseball Cube and see that he his extremely well traveled.
I also found it somewhat amusing that in the article Tom had to go back to 2002 to find anything really nice in Joey’s stats to talk about.
What the Tigers see in Eischen is a left-hander capable of good things. In 2002 for Montreal, he went 6-1 with a 1.34 ERA.
So who will fill this role? That’s the million dollar question. It might be easier to say who isn’t than to say who possibly is but I’ll go ahead and say it isn’t Wil Ledezma either. And that is a good thing, Ledezma has greater things in store for him.
