Now that the Tigers are becoming a team that’s getting noticed and some of the players becoming stars in their own right I thought I’d take a minute to throw out some idea’s for commercials. Many sports stars make as much or more than their salary doing commercials and to the degree that there is a market for extra advertisement revenue for Tigers players this could certainly make the city even more attractive.
I’m sure many of us remember the Joel Zumaya Comcast High-Speed Internet commercials with classic quotes such as:
That’s SMOKIN’ fast!
or even better still
That’s like throwing 206 miles per hour!
These worked great apparently as I saw them quite often throughout the late summer months. But I think there are a number of opportunities for other Tiger players and here are a few ideas.
- Jeremy Bonderman - Bail bonds - “When you need an out!”
- Magglio Ordonez - Hair Salon - I think he could wear out high-end do’s and pick up some extra bucks there. How about this style? Maybe he’ll end up on sportshair.com like Pedro Martinez.
- Placido Polanco - Ski Head Scarves - They are good for more than skiing!
I know that Tiger players can do better than the Pistons players and their Wallside Windows commercials. I’m sure there are plenty of other opportunities, maybe I’m just not that imaginative. Anyone else have any good idea’s?
On a side note, I noticed that Troy Percival is now a special assignment pitching instructor with the LA Angels of Anaheim. He had great years with the Angels so going back is no surprise, to bad injuries didn’t allow him to do the same in Detroit.
