NYT gives preview into upcoming Sheffield book

The New York Times is reporting on a pre-release issue of the upcoming autobiography from Gary Sheffield entitled ‘Inside Power‘. This apparently goes over his time training with Barry Bonds and hits upon the current baseball hot button issue of steroids.

This also discusses much of the behind the scenes moves he has made and issues he’s had with previous teams. Said not to contain “bombshells” but is a very open:

Sheffield said that he started plotting his signing with the Yankees after the 2003 season with Atlanta. He planned a lunch meeting with Braves officials at a restaurant in Tampa, Fla., where the Yankees’ principal owner, George Steinbrenner, often ate with the hopes that Steinbrenner would intensify his interest in signing him.

That seems just a bit wierd.

I don’t care to discuss steroids and baseball here but I hope this isn’t a preview of the type of attention that will be brought upon the Detroit club because of Gary. I’m looking very forward to seeing what Sheffield can bring to the team next year and I hope it isn’t overshadowed by negative press.

The books release date is set for April 3rd; The day after Opening Day.
