It appears as if the earlier speculations, discussed over at the Detroit Tiger Weblog, have been confirmed and the Tigers broadcasts will be picked up on WKRK 97.1. This is good news for me as I live in Canton and get the signal but it is rather weak. The bigger news I am waiting for is the TV deal to see how much FSN/TV 20 expand coverage. From the article:
Still to be negotiated is a television contract for 2007. Various sources familiar with Detroit’s TV stations and past negotiations say the Tigers are pressing for a dramatic increase in coverage — perhaps a dozen or more games than were televised in 2006, when FSN Detroit carried 110 games and TV20 televised another 20.
If negotiations proceed successfully, the 2007 package is expected to lead to an increase in telecasts on FSN as well as a substantial telecast package on one of the local “free” stations.
I do get FSN Detroit so TV 20 coverage isn’t so important for me, but I know it is for many out there who don’t get that channel. Either way, this is all good news!
I just want more FSN coverage, and more games in April and September, both months seem to be intermittent at best.
Yep, I’d like to see more FSN coverage myself. Are all FSN games also in HD? I don’t have HD but was thinking about it.
I’ve seen football games in HD and they are great, I wonder how a baseball game is in HD?
Are the games broadcast over the station’s internet broadcast as well? Or does this violate mlb.com’s rights?
No, I believe the games are blacked out over the internet broadcast. They were when I tried off of 1270′s site last year.

I’m surprised that you don’t get anything up there. There is always MLB.tv/MLB Gameday Audio so you can watch or listen to the game.

That’s what I thought (have to subscribe to MLB.com. Oh, well, at least the price is pretty decent for audio only.
